Christmas Launch Party... the aftermath

Thursday 10th December 2009 marked the official launch of Serendip Children's Home.  The occassion was celebrated at Chingford Assembly Hall, London.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Serendip's Launch Party such a resounding success!  200+ guests and volunteers came together for an evening to raise awareness of the Sri Lankan situation and the work of Serendip.

We had a fantastic evening of live entertainment with music, dancing and theatre.  Guests enjoyed a lavish 3 course meal and drinks.  One of the highlights of the evening was a raffle with the top prize of a Nintendo Wii won by 14 year old Samantha Pyke.

The evening kicked off with a moving performance by the Sakthi Fine Arts; 18 girls staged a dance / theatre show addressing issues currently facing the children of Sri Lanka.  The hopeful message at the end - the brighter future our own charity could offer some of these children in need - was poignant in its execution.  Congratulations and thank you to Anushka and her girls.

Mr. Peter Carroll, a trustee, and Ms. Rajini Iqbal, a long term supporter and advisor, gave the initial speeches bringing the audience up to speed on the situation in Sri Lanka, its development through the years and the current post-conflict issues currently facing the country.

The guests enjoyed a classic Bharatanatyam dance performance by the highly accomplished Gerubaleny Gopal.  Her grace, purity, tenderness, and sculpturesque poses brought the dance to life.

Ms. Trisha Selvaratnam, the Chairman of the Board, and Mrs. Josie Marshall, supporter of our charity, gave the final speeches, highlighting the achievements of Serendip to date and suggesting ways for others to help.

The evening concluded with a lively Bollywood fusion dance performance from Abyniyah Vijakumaran, Priyanka Louis Montfort and Geethu Vijayakumaran.  The classic training the girls had received was clear in the quality of their routines.  Thank you girls!
