Serendip provided the necessary funds for a self-sufficiency project that initially assisted over 500 widows in becoming self-employed workers/businesses. We supported women headed families in many villages in the Vavuniya, Mullaithivu, Kilinochchi, Batticoloa and Jaffna districts. Our local representatives monitor the projects. Some of the funding has come from individual donations/charity walks etc and others from large organisations such as TFM. If you want to help by contributing to a similar project please contact us.
Successful businesses will provide a living income for these widows and children, reduce their dependence upon hand-outs (which are never sufficient) and inject valuable finance into the local economy. We draw upon our general funds but also looking for sponsors (at £250 per business).
