Over the last four years, we have sponsored professionals working within the Departments of Education and Health to undertake comprehensive training in special needs.
All the professionals successfully completed the course and are now able to train more staff in Sri Lanka, who work with children with learning disabilities and autism.
We are continuously engaging with the Department of Education to provide specific training to teachers and parents. Support for parents is critical in ensuring they are well informed and that they feel well supported. We provide monthly parent’s groups, to encourage a space for parents to socialise, network, relax and receive specialist training. These groups also encourages parents to discuss what further support they feel they and their children would benefit from in the future.
Serendip also have specialist facilities, therapy and equipment to further support children with autism, in ten schools in Wanni. This includes sensory rooms, speech & language therapy, yoga sessions, and music & dance therapy in the fine arts centres.
We urgently need your help to ensure that we can continue to fund specialist training and equipment.
